Memphis has never had a shortage of artists bringing their own flavor to hip-hop, and Big KMula is looking to add his name to that conversation. Formerly known as Kourtney Moneyy, the Memphis native is preparing to release new music following his latest single, “Blue Bottles and Birches.”
Coming out of Parkway Village on the east side of Memphis, KMula represents a neighborhood with deep ties to the city’s hip-hop culture. The area has connections to artists like Finesse2Tymes, Don Trip, NLE Choppa, and Dee Mula, continuing a tradition of Memphis talent making noise beyond the city limits.
KMula has been building his catalog through releases like “Gulag,” “Don Da Da,” and “GOAT Like Me,” a single dating back to 2019. His latest offering, “Blue Bottles and Birches,” gives listeners a look at his current direction as he prepares to introduce his next wave of music.
He’s also no stranger to collaborations outside the traditional music industry. Last year, KMula released Men & Black, a joint album produced exclusively by his longtime friend Bill Norton, a professional football defensive tackle with the Los Angeles Rams. The project brought together two childhood friends from different professional worlds, with Norton handling the production while KMula took care of the music.
The partnership adds another interesting layer to KMula’s story, showing how relationships built long before the spotlight can translate into creative opportunities.
With new music expected soon, Big KMula is looking to build on his previous releases while continuing to represent Parkway Village and the Memphis sound. As the city continues producing artists with distinct styles and perspectives, KMula is focused on carving out his own lane.
For now, listeners can check out “Blue Bottles and Birches” while keeping an eye out for what’s next from the Memphis rapper.
