The road often traveled is most times filled with dreams deferred and plans ultimately placed on hold because life will undoubtedly life. However, albeit daunting to some, well…daunting to most, the road less traveled is where you find out who you really are. It can be a path of uncertainty, a path of early mornings and sleepless nights, and a path of thanklessness. Most times it feels as if you’re shooting in the dark, unsure of where you’re aiming, but you know it has to be done. When you hit your target however, that’s when it all begins to make sense.
Enter Suzi’s latest EP “Hit The Target”. If her voice sounds familiar that’s because you may have heard her most recently on Jim Jones’ “That Sh!t Still In Harlem”. No ladies and gentlemen that WAS NOT a vocal sample. The energy and catchiness of that hook is primarily what you will find on this project.

The opener also doubles as the title track and throws you right into the heart of the party. “Tied To Me” seamlessly maintains the vibe and will undoubtedly win people over on the dance floor because the sample is recognizable and infectious….easily the standout track early on. “New Bae” offers a slight but welcome departure cadence wise. Suzi’s airy vocals contemplate these uptempo offerings and will be a solid 3-Pack that will put you in that zone.

“Fine By Me” and “Let Me Show You” close out the EP in a more of sultry fashion. Gone are the “Sexy Drill” stylings but more of landscape that could logically be seen as the next step of where that sound could go. Suzi offers more of her vocal abilities on the final two tracks. She makes certain choices vocally on these tracks that weren’t present on the earlier half of the EP. Not necessarily going with a different range but she is definitely showing the listener that she can and will take it there if the track calls for it. Very strong closers.

In ending, Suzi’s “Hit The Target EP” successfully accomplishes what it sets out to do. Giving her growing audience and first time listeners an appetizer that is full of life and character, I’m sure there is much more in store. I for one am interested to hear what her inevitable full length LP will sound like and offer. I’m glad that this wasn’t an EP filled with features because you only get one shot at a first impression. Let’s see what Suzi does next.
