As the old adage goes…To whom much is given, much will be required. When you see that phrase however, many will think that whatever is received may have been in the form of a hand out and not entirely earned. A person who has a different motor inside of them, a person who is driven by a different adage will often times see that phrasing and take a completely different route…the road less traveled if you will. “Earned, Not Given” is the phrase that currently describes a person that chooses to walk down a different road. A person that wants to forge their own path and create their own legacy….That person is Cheyenne Smith.

For those of you that aren’t aware, Cheyenne…better known as “Chey” is the daughter of Method Man, yes ladies and gentlemen THAT Method Man. One of the members of the most influential and most impactful groups in Hip-Hop…THE Wu-Tang Clan. With that type of backing, one could easily assume or surmise that Chey would utilize that major connection to put herself in a position that garners instant attention and adulation. Those assumptions however, would be wrong. Chey wants to gain notoriety on her own, she wants to create her own brand and legacy based solely on the merits of her own talents and drive to make her own mark on the industry.

Chey has hit the ground running with two solo offerings both released at the top of this year. The song “Hair and Nails” dropped in January and her latest track “Boujee & Ghetto” was released in February. Both tracks are gaining traction as she lets the world know that she is here to stay. Her flow is measured as she raps with the confidence of a veteran spitter but with the youthful bravado of a young, hungry MC that is more than willing to prove their worth on the Mic. These are the ingredients that will take Chey to any heights that she wants to reach musically.

Being the child of a legend is no easy task, especially if the child enters the same profession that made their parent legendary in the first place. Some people will automatically give a cautious eye and write off the artist before hearing one bar. These are only mere stepping stones to achieve greatness. Turn those naysayers into believers by continuing to push, grow, hone your skills and release quality music until those same naysayers have no choice but to give you your props. That is the mission…that is the goal….Chey is the future, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
