It’s a Tuesday morning in July 2002. You’re 16 years old and about to enter your senior year of high school. You have a part time job but hey lets face it, you know you’re only doing this for the summer to stay out of trouble. You’re also working because you feel you’re too old and too independent to ask your parents for anything….ESPECIALLY allowance. After you get paid that prior Friday, and pitch in some grocery money to your parents, you become excited because you realize you have some money left to partake and indulge in your favorite past time once the weekend is over……New Music Tuesday.

Your local “CD Spot” is only down the street (translation for 40 year olds; it’s not walking distance) and you actually arrive at your destination before the store opens because you’re that excited. Your main man who you don’t know but you’re secretly envious of because you feel he has the best job in the world pulls up to the spot and lifts the gate. You give him about 5 to 10 minutes to fully open up the store so you dart across the street to get a bagel and some orange juice oh and some double A batteries can’t forget those. Head back to the store and you see that the “Closed” sign has been flipped to “Open”….Yes you’re in business now…..New Music Tuesday.

You have an extra pep in your step because you’re actually off today, you only work three days out of the week and your schedule for this work week doesn’t start until Wednesday. You’re able to peruse each aisle and plot on future purchases when you get some more money in about 2 weeks time, but today you’re only here for 2 CD’s. Something catches your eye as you get to the “N” section of the store. A particular album that you already own has a slightly altered album cover. You pick it up and begin to read the track list and you realize there is a song missing. Your interest is instantly peaked but remember you have to stay focused because you’re only here for 2 CD’s MAX!….New Music Tuesday

After about 45 minutes of deliberation, you get back to the task at hand, and pick up what you came to get. Two CD’s from two different genres all for the sweet price of $14.99 USD each. Your main man that you don’t know is at the register and he asks you if you need a bag and you reply with the same corny line you’ve been using for the past 2 years at this point…”Nope, these are going directly in my ears”.You chuckle internally because you think it’s the funniest thing on earth but he just dismissively nods in agreement. After that awkward exchange, he hands you your change, receipts and the grand prize for the day your Two CDs……New Music Tuesday.

You exit the store and find the nearest bench to occupy. It’s about mid morning at this point so let’s say 10:35am and you’re eagerly awaiting the new sounds you’re about to experience. You feverishly open the packaging on the batteries and place them into your CD player then immediately turn your sights on the cellophane wrappers that incase your tangible music. You press play and your eyes widen. Unique sounds you’ve never heard before begin cascading between the left and right headphones. At this point in your young life, nothing else matters….Life is good and you’re at peace……..Long Live New Music Tuesday.
